BIOGRAPHY
Bobby J Brown was born in Washington, DC and began boxing at the age of eleven. Turning pro he moved to New Jersey to train with 6 time world champion Carmen Graziano. Compiling a record of 71 wins and 13 losses. His most memorable fights was 3 bouts against former Olympic and World Champion Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker (arguably one of the greatest lightweight champions of all time.) Losing twice to Whitaker and eventually winning by decision in his hometown of Norfolk, Virgina.
While living in New Jersey Brown was bitten by the acting bug when he earned a small role in the 1988 film "Homeboy" when fellow boxer/ actor Mickey Rourke came to town. Moving to New York City shortly later he joined the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Paying his dues he performed in several off Broadway plays which eventually caught the attention of Actor/ Director Charles S. Dutton of the popular FOX 90's sitcom "ROC."Brown was cast as Officer Ira Weinerin in Dutton's and producer Ed Simon's 2000 Emmy award winning gritty HBO mini-series "The Corner." In 2002 Brown was cast as officer Bobby Brown in another Simon production, HBO's critically acclaimed and ground breaking series "The Wire."
In 2002 Brown's feature film debut was in Robert DeNiro's "City By The Sea." In 2008 the independent horror feature "From Within" and in 2009 The Rene Zellwegger led romantic-comedy "My One and Only"
In 2005 Bobby J Brown made his directional debut with his award winning documentary "Off The Chain." Where he infiltrated the underground world of dog fighting.
